Artist Bios

Audrie 2019

I’ve spent a lot of time in front of canvases, behind pencils and brushes. Hours and hours I have devoted to art, and now I am here. I grew up the youngest of three sisters, all artists. I always felt at a disadvantage. But looking back I see how I was constantly reaching to be better because I had two older sisters who set the bar for me. I am an artist today because of them, I don’t think I could have faced all the struggles of being an artist without them experiencing it too. I sold my first piece when I was 14. One of the teachers at my school wanted to buy it from me. Watercolor, graphite and oils are my main mediums. I love working in oil, I consider it my dominant medium. I focus on realism and have a softer style when working with oils. I want to create art that has meaning, even when creating custom art and commissions. I like to make ordinary art, (like portraits) become more interesting by adding symbols and creating a deeper meaning. Being an artists isn’t always easy. I have big ideas but many times my big ideas don’t pan out and I can be left disappointed and unmotivated. I can also get into a slump where I don’t paint at all for a while, or the process slows down. But ultimately art is what I love to do, regardless of its challenges. Art helps me not feel alone. I am eager to please and want to create a piece of art within my skill level, and something the client will cherish for a lifetime.

I’ve been doing art since I could hold I pencil, and I’ve been practicing and challenging myself ever since. I’m the middle sister and constantly being pushed and inspired on either side of me. My sisters are my support system and I wouldn’t be here without them. I sold my first piece in 2015 when I was 17. Although I can work in many mediums, my favorites are charcoal, colored pencils, and oil paints. I’m a detail-oriented person, which makes me good at realism and gives me the patience to focus on every tiny detail. I still struggle with being a perfectionist and I often set the standards for myself, ridiculously high. I try to use my perfectionist eye as a tool and not a template for my work. I think it’s important to have a diverse set of skills. It keeps me motivated creatively with learning new techniques, subjects and mediums. It also gives the customer more options to create something unique and allows me to provide them exactly what they are looking for. I’m inspired daily, by the world and the people around me. I’m passionate about art itself but I’m more passionate about the connections people can have through artwork and what art can do for the soul.

Rhoda 2019

I don’t remember when I started drawing but I remember what made me want to keep doing art. Whenever I had trouble drawing something, my mom would help me by drawing it for me. She taught me how to shade and do basic techniques. Knowing what was possible made me want to push myself to be better and learn to do it without her help. I sold my first drawing to my art teacher in high school when I was 16. I had finished the art project that was assigned and asked her what I could do to fill up the rest of the class period. She pulled out a picture of her dog that had passed away and told me to draw it. I turned in my sketchbook and when I got it back the teacher had put a post it note on the picture of her dog I had drawn asking me if she could buy it. I like to work in mostly graphite and acrylic but I dabble a bit in oils and watercolor.  I specialize in pet portraits and I love painting animals in particular. My goal is to capture the soul of whatever I am painting. This is what my clients comment on the most when they see the portrait of their pet. I feel like that is what elevates the art, adding soul. I am good at capturing the likeness of my subject and I stay really determined when I start a project to keep going. I struggle with feeling like I am not good enough almost every day and deal with a lot of self-judgment but art helps me work on my self-worth and brings to my attention what is going on inside of me. I am currently doing more original artwork, pieces that allow me to express my true self.
